Massage for Prevention of Sports Related Injuries

As an athlete myself I know how I sports related
injuries tend to take longer to heal or longer to feel better after
the age of twenty-five. Everyone knows or should know prevention
is the best way to approach sports related injuries.
Sports related injuries are attributed to tight
muscles being over worked, in which case they are unable to keep
up with the demands we are forcing them to do. In turn this leaves
the tight muscles compromised. Usually the joint closest to the
tight area is affected. This makes the rest of everyday life uncomfortable
due to pain. The pain may not always be present but it definitely
makes itself know or reminds you every time you move a certain way,
such as a simple shoulder check to your right side blind spot while
driving.
Massage Therapy is the fastest, safest, most effective
way to prevent sports related injuries. This is achieved by making
the muscles relax. Muscles only work in one direction and that is
to contract or get smaller. Massage and stretching help the muscles
to stop the tightness, which prevents possible future, muscle injuries.
Of course massage is extremely helpful in treating
sports injuries once they do occur, however as healthy athletics
we should always keep in mind that PREVENTION is the KEY!
